Norwood has held annual boat regattas for a number of years on a section of the Racquette River which forms a beautiful lake within the village. The regattas have always been sponsored by the Norwood Lake Association and the proceeds from these regattas has always been used to promote local organizations and community projects within the village. While many people have contributed their time and talents to these regattas year after year, it is only fair to credit Jim McFaddin with being the primary organizer of these events! Jim is also the current president of the Norwood Lake Association, and has been the president since 1987. Proceeds from these regattas have gone to local churches, the Norwood Fire Department, 4-H camp (to stock fish in Norwood Lake), the Norwood Library, Kiwanis, the Village Green Concert Series and to help finance the beginning of a very successful recycling center for this area. These regattas would not be possible without financial support from many merchants and businesses outside the immediate Norwood area. People who enjoy the regatta should remember to patronize these merchants. Their names appear in the program each year. If you will require motel accommodations, reservations should be completed early, since it is a busy time of the year and many motels and hotels are filled well before the event. |
