1900--Norwood Miscellany From the Watertown Daily Times:
Oct. 19, 1898: Col. Roosevelt arrived in Norwood at 5:45 p.m. today and was met by a crowd of about 500 people, who heartily cheered him. The town was decorated with flags and banners and the Potsdam band was there.
From the Friday, September 1, 1899 Potsdam St. Lawrence Herald:
One of the prettiest dancing parties that Norwood has boasted of for some time took place there last Friday evening, under the management of Miss Margaret McCormick. Some sixty couples were present. Music was furnished by the Philharmonic String Band, of this village, an organization which has been under way since Spring and has become very fine for dances, receptions, parties, etc. Norwood people speak in the highest terms of their recent work in that place.
From the Wednesday, March 27, 1901 of the Potsdam Courier & Freeman:
The Norwood Mfg. Co. have purchased the Call's rapids water power located a mile south of the village. Twenty five years ago a dam was located there and mills furnished with power, but now nothing remains but rapids. The acquisition of these rapids by the company makes it possible to secure a head of over twenty feet at their Norwood mills, and one of the best water power privileges and largest mill ponds in New York State.
From the Watertown Daily Times:
Aug. 20, 1902: A gentle hailstorm passed over Norwood Saturday afternoon, lasting about 10 minutes. It came up very suddenly and almost in an instant the hail began to fall thick and fast. Hailstones the size of peas lay 1 to 3 inches deep in places. Old residents say they never witnessed anything like it before. After the storm had passed several took advantage of the opportunity of snowballing in summer and pelted each other with hailstone snowballs.
