Frank Lamanna

Frank Lamanna was born in Matera, Italy on February 20, 1887. He came to the U.S. in 1912 after serving as an apprentice since age 14, later owning his own shop.

He worked in Brooklyn for a year then moved to Utica where he worked at New York Mills. When the mill closed because of strike, he worked in Illion at the Armory. He established his business in Norwood in 1917 in a building known as the Marble Shop then later in the Murray building on Mechanic St.. He moved to two other locations on the same street prior to the last one at 21 Mechanic St. (shown here). The building has since been torn down. He ran his business in Norwood from 1917 to 1957.

Mr. and Mrs. Lamanna moved to Utica upon retirement and spent their remaining years there. He died September 16, 1974.
