Norwood's 2009 July 4th Celebration
Schedule of Events
The 74th Annual Norwood Fire Department
Field Day Events starts July 3rd on the Village Green. The Norwood Brass
Firemen will offer a concert in the park from 7
– 9 PM. Games of
Chance, food and legal beverages will be offered at the Fire Hall. This concert
is free for the public to enjoy. A pass
of the hat will benefit the Norwood Volunteer Fire Dept.
Cubby T. Clown and Co. is donating their time to this
annual fund-raiser. Face painters and
balloon animal sculptors will be in the park from 7 – 9 pm along with
Cubby and Cuddles.
From 9 pm – 1 am Sudden
Impact will play the traditional “Block Dance” in front of the Fire Hall. A two dollar admission will be charged at the
gate.
On July 4th a huge parade is scheduled to
step off at 1 PM sharp. Lining up on Maple
Street, this parade progresses down Spring St. and ends at
the Morgan St. Firemen’s Field. This 60
– 70 unit parade will consist of 4 marching bands, over 15 fire departments and
rescue squads, more than 20 floats, antique cars and trucks. Youth and church groups along with many civic
and area businesses help to support this one hour parade. Last year’s parade was viewed by over 4,000
people.
The parade theme is “Celebrate Your Independence”. There will be 61 US flags
displayed along the parade route. 30
minutes before parade time the Norwood Firemen
have over 700- 8”x12” hand-helded American flags to share with parade
viewers. When a donation of any size is
placed into the fireman’s boot, the viewer will be given a flag to wave during
the parade.
From noon until parade time, the Lime Hollow Boys
will perform on the announcing stand which is found near Buck’s Funeral Home across
from the children’s playground on the Village Green. Cubby T. Clown and Co. will also offer face
painting and animal balloon sculpturing before and during the parade at the
Village Green. All plaque for parade
awards have been donated by Hometown Café.
Following the parade, festivities at the Morgan St.
Firemen’s Field start with a Demolition Derby and Garden Tractor races at 2 PM.
These tractors reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour.
From 3 pm – 4:30
pm Band Concerts will be offered from the
following parade bands: The River Rat
Project Band, the Brockville Pipe and
Drum Band and the Original Yanks from Antwerp.
Oxen cart rides along with visits with Cubby T. and
Cuddles will be on going all afternoon.
Two live shows from the Cubby T. Clown and Co. will be take play at 5 pm and 7
pm. These will be
two different shows.
Of course various food and beverages will be offered
all day long. This annual field day will
end with one of the biggest firework displayes in St. Lawrence County. This display costs the fire dept. over
$5,000.00
